Professor Oleg Grabar 1929-2011

Prof Grabar was born in France in 1929 and graduated from Paris University in 1948 with a degree in history. In 1950 he was awarded a Bachelor degree by Harvard Univesity, followed by his Master's in 1953. Princeton University conferred a PhD in Eastern Languages, Arts, and the History of Art in 1955. He became Aga Khan Professor in Islamic Art and Architecture at Harvard in 1980 where he taught until 1990 when he joined the Institute for Advanced Study. He has been a professor emeritus since 1998, dedicating his time to lecturing and research. He has published 18 books and more than 140 essays about Islamic arts.
